For 46 years, Mount Dora has been well-known to road cyclists – and we won’t sit on our laurels this year either!! With NEW century rides Friday and Saturday, Metric Centuries on Friday, Saturday & Sunday, climb the challenge that is Sugarloaf, and let’s not forget the rolling hills that surround us … choose your speed group carefully! And not to scare the beginning (novice) cyclists, we have shorter and easier rides too! Remember your water bottles! We offer FREE REFILLS at ALL our rest stops (snacks too). BRING THE KIDS! Both Saturday and Sunday we have short rides with kid-friendly snacks. Kids 15 and under are free!!
We’ve added GRAVEL rides this year too! Central Florida’s flora and fauna (yes fauna) are awaiting your exploration on one or both of our neighboring parks for gravel riding – good incentive to book TWO days! Yes, road bicycles can easily traverse these areas and you will be guided by experienced local cyclists. Be surrounded by all that Mother Nature has provided and get to know nature without those bothersome four wheeled machines around you! What fauna are we alluding to? Gators of course, bob cats, raccoon, eagles, hawks, egrets, herons – so many birds that Audubon has a festival in one of our parks. We do suggest that you carry a spare tube and water bottle – as trekking back to the hospitality tent is a haul! If you forget your spare or that extra bottle, Adrenaline Bike Works in Mount Dora can hook you up!
Join us for some fun on the Mount Dora Mountain Bike Trail. Come test your endurance on the trails and face the natural elevation changes of Mount Dora. These trails are packed with natural AND man-made obstacles. From the fast and fun flow of GRAVITY DESTROYER to the punchy climbs of HELTER SKELTER, there is something for everyone. Feeling brave? Try the roll down PURE ADRENALINE! From drops to jumps to big wood bumps, the fun never ends.
As always, we have arranged for SAG. For ROAD riders, rest stops are available every 20 miles or so. Hospitality tents will offer hydration refills for your water bottles and snacks to keep you fueled at both the MOUNTAIN trailhead and the GRAVEL trailheads.
BREAKFAST & LUNCH PACKAGES NEW THIS YEAR
Some of you want grab and go; some of you fuel up at your home or hotel; many of you wish to dine at one of our wonderful eating emporiums. We want to please you all!
To keep the expenses of the festival in control AND not creating food waste, we offer breakfast and lunch as a separate option. If that convenience interests you, please add it to your selected choices in registration.
Magical Meat Boutique will offer grab & go breakfast (alternatively, grab and sit down to have a coffee!) and a local renowned caterer will have a grab & go COLD protein/pasta lunch to give you a quick refuel when you get back downtown.
As always, fresh fruit, hydration will be available from dawn TO social hour on the Chamber patio. Pickle juice included!!
Encouraging kids to ride bikes!
This year a group of combat-hardened Vets, from the Mount Dora AMVETS Post 1992 have decided to continue a military tradition of putting smiles on a child’s face with the gift of a new bike for the holiday season, and you can help!
The Mount Dora Bicycle Festival is providing a vendor tent for the Mount Dora AMVETS to collect donations to purchase new bicycles for several Lake and Sumter County Foster Children during this year’s Festival.
If you have use bikes or bike parts for children’s bikes, they will gladly take those and provide them to the Lake County United Motorcyclists Association for their Bicycle Refurbishing program as part of their 18th Annual Toy Drive to benefit foster families in the area.
You can make your donation in person at the event, all monetary donations received will be going to the purchase of new bikes to help the Mount Dora Amvets give the gift of cycling to an unexpecting child.
